Off-Season
in the Outer Banks is a wonderful time. A stroll along the beach
makes it seem like your own, private, getaway. With
average highs over 70 from mid-April through early November
(and 80’s recorded in every month except for January - only 70's
then), there’s a good chance you’ll get away with only a light sweater
during your walk. We have seen humans in the ocean as late as Thanksgiving
(some were NOT wearing wet suits)!
You can spend the day reading a book on the beach, digging for
crabs, or building a sandcastle. Surf fish from your home, or schedule
a charter from Oregon Inlet.
Hike up (or drive up) to the four-wheel drive beach. Enjoy our
hot tubs (it’s almost guaranteed you won’t have to trudge through
snow to get to one). Go for a stroll at the Currituck Lighthouse. Play
a round of golf.
Enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants
in Corolla, Duck, or even Kitty Hawk. Shop the off-season bargains
at the local shops. Follow in the Wright brother's tradition
and take a hang gliding
lesson at Jockey's Ridge.
Celebrate the anniversary of the Wright brother's
first flight. Celebrations
(ending in the semi-formal Wright Brothers Annual Ball) are taking place mid-December. See the Nutcracker at the beach on December 18th (call
252-441-9009 after 2 PM).
The 8th Annual Wedding Expo takes place on January 7th.
Attend the theatre
(yes, in the Outer Banks!) Hear Grammy-nominated jazz artist Nnenna Freelon
on March 4th or the Preservation Jazz Hall Band on April 1th. Take a candle-light walking tour of
historic Manteo (call 252-475-1701 for info - usually Tuesday and
Thursday nights). Visit
Roanoke Island or the
North
Carolina Aquarium. Please visit our
What to Do page. Additional
calendars are available (here,
here, and here).
The
nights are amazing. With the ocean to the east, the longer nights,
and the nearest city far away, the sky lights up in a way that can’t
be seen in the crowded cities, or even in the suburban/rural areas
of the North-East.
Get the family together for a reunion. Call up a bunch of friends
that need to escape the snow. Schedule a retreat for your group
at work. Escape to the Outer Banks for the Holidays (and avoid the
fight over whose home to visit this year). Skip the airlines, and
drive on down.
For your stay, we offer two oceanfront, luxury homes,
Sea Esta and
Another Sea Esta.
Please visit the individual sites for more info. Of course, we’d
love to have you stay at either one.
With the smaller crowds, both of our homes revert to significantly
reduced rates. With the exception of the pool (check for availability),
all of our amenities remain the same.
